Ruby & Pearl Band Ring

Additional Information

This is an exquisite mid-Victorian ring designed as a gem-set band ring. The ring features three pearls and six rubies, each raised in individual collets and set in a closed-back setting. Wirework ornamentation is present on the sides, and little spherules are placed between each of the stones. The slightly graduating shoulders are joined to a ring shank, which is richly textured with chasing. The ring is hallmarked as 15ct gold, with the assay office in Birmingham in 1873. Although the maker’s marks are present, they are indistinct.

Mid-Victorian jewellery is commonly referred to as the Grand Period, characterized by intricate ornamentation, vibrant gemstones, and rich textures. This era exudes a sense of confidence and opulence, reflected in the jewellery designs of the time. The jewellery pieces are often delicate and require careful handling due to their age and condition, particularly when it comes to delicate rings. These pieces serve as prime examples of the era’s intricate craftsmanship and should be worn with great care and consideration.
